A care order in Britain, is a court order
that places a child in the care of a local
authority. There were 63,000 children in care
in the UK in 1993. From October 1991 a person
who is a parent or guardian of the child may
exercise responsibility independently of the
authority, provided that the person does not
act in a manner incompatible with the care
order.
